Soap. Sabão. Sabon. Savon. Soap

By. Erica L. Porter

Hey family! How are you HEALING and FEELING these days? We are in the midst of the second quarter (Q2) of the year and the summer months has us sizzlin’. Entrepreneurship is on the rise, relationships are being re-established and traveling abroad is the goal of many. Although the world is opening up and we are outside COVID-19 and it’s politics remain constant in our everyday lives. This pandemic has forced us to be more cautious and sanitized than ever. If we aren’t wiping and disinfecting surfaces, we are soaping our hands and bodies until we can’t feel our skin. Side note: I can still feel my skin and I’ll let you know why later. Stay with me now...

Back in the day, after playing outside, my mama said, “Wash yo face and hands before you eat that food. Keep your fingers out of your mouth.” Washing up, as the OG Mama’s called it wasn’t optional. This was a no questions asked rule when I was raised. The CDC, media, scientists and doctors arent' telling many of us anything new. We knew then and we know now, that clean hands and good hygiene is as natural as breathing. Now, the products my family used to wash up wasn't as questionable back then as they are now.

My parents could only afford those ivory, shamrock green and grayish colored soap bars. Some made my skin itch and possibly aggravated my skin conditions. As consumers, my parents were not as knowledgeable about the harsh chemicals and ingredients in what they called soap. They just bought the good-smelling cheap stuff. If they could smell it through the packaging, then the soap had to be good. Yeah right!

Soap. Sabão. Sabon. Savon. Soap. So, what is handmade soap? It’s more than what is advertised on television. True handmade soap is a natural cleansing product, minus the harsh commercial ingredients we can not pronounce. Soap is a beautiful science. It’s chemistry and math. It’s animal or vegetable fats, oils, and nut butters combined with Alkali. Oh, the real name of lye is Alkali and true soap can not be made without it. Remember that! Now, the average joe can make a soap bar but only an Artisan...a creative can transform ingredients into a Holy Grail product a.k.a. something you can’t live without. We Artisan's consider soap making, our craft, to be an art. BrooklynWhipps Handmade Soaps & Bath Essentials take pride in creating handmade soaps and bath essentials consumers can trust.

Our handmade soaps have the right mixture of natural fatty acids which create a great bar of soap; leaving the skin feeling clean and moisturized. I am obsessed with how my skin feels after using my handmade soaps. I can still feel my skin and I am not rushing to moisturize afterwards (although I do). They are lightly scented with natures best essential oils and minimize itching and irritation of the skin. Besides, less is always more. If you want clean skin, we are here for you.

Check out a few of our Holy Grail products...

I am a living testament to that fact and this is why I started BrooklynWhipps Handmade Soaps & Bath Essentials.
